This book examines the challenges, policies, and developments associated with cross-border transport and mobility within the European Union. It explores the importance of establishing an integrated and barrier-free transportation system to facilitate the movement of passengers across national borders, strengthen regional connectivity, and support European economic and social cohesion. The book discusses the regulatory frameworks governing cross-border mobility, European Union-funded transportation projects, and cooperation between neighboring countries and regions. It also analyzes the role of Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans (SUMPs) in coordinating transportation planning across administrative boundaries, with particular attention to the Italy–Slovenia border region. Key topics include cross-border transport infrastructure, public transportation services, accessibility, data-driven mobility management, and strategic regional planning. The book highlights the importance of overcoming infrastructure, administrative, organizational, and planning barriers to improve the integration and efficiency of cross-border transportation networks. By combining academic research with practical experiences, it provides insights for developing coordinated and sustainable mobility systems across Europe. This book is a valuable reference for researchers, policymakers, transportation planners, and professionals working in transport policy, regional development, and international mobility.
