Quality of Life Indicators and Policy Strategies to Advance Sustainability in the Pearl River Delta
This policy research report proposes a comprehensive system of community quality-of-life indicators and identifies strategic policy choices to advance environmental, social, and economic sustainability within the Pearl River Delta (PRD) region of Guangdong Province in southeastern China [Knopman2015]. Recognizing the severe challenges brought by rapid, unplanned outward urban expansion—including severe air and water pollution, extreme traffic congestion, high road fatality rates, and critical public housing shortages—the study frames actionable urban management strategies [Knopman2015]. The authors construct a data-driven planning framework that integrates regional land-use coordination with high-efficiency, people-oriented transit alternatives to curb private vehicle reliance, preserve historical heritage, and build long-term environmental resilience [Knopman2015]. Ultimately, this volume serves as a vital analytical guide for municipal administrators, urban planners, and global policymakers seeking to balance intense industrial production with an elevated, sustainable quality of living in dynamically expanding megacities.
