Inside Mining Capitalism: The Micropolitics of Work on the Congolese and Zambian Copperbelts
Inside Mining Capitalism examines the transformation of labour practices in the mining industry of the Congolese and Zambian Copperbelts following the mining boom and influx of foreign investment since the beginning of the twenty-first century. The book explores the emergence of new flexible and neoliberal labour regimes and examines how labour practices are negotiated, mediated, and resisted by mine workers, trade unionists, and human resource managers. It also discusses differences in labour practices according to the type of capital, mining project, and location, while addressing issues of trade union responsibility, gender equality, and identity politics.
