Social Democratic Capitalism
Social Democratic Capitalism examines which combination of institutions and policies is most conducive to human flourishing. Drawing on historical and comparative evidence from affluent democratic countries, Lane Kenworthy argues that social democratic capitalism—combining democracy, capitalism, high-quality education, an expansive welfare state, employment-oriented public services, and moderate regulation of product and labor markets—can improve living standards, economic security, and equality of opportunity. The book also considers whether this model can be applied more broadly and develops a policy agenda for improving social and economic outcomes, particularly in the United States.
