ABSTRACT

Social Sustainability and Public Perception of Public Transportation in the City of Surakarta (Case Study of the 2021 BST Bus):  The development of sustainable public transportation needs to be a topic of attention. Nearly 56.2% of the world's population lives in urban areas. Transportation as part of the urban form element must meet sustainable transportation standards. The purposes of this research were to determine the condition of the social sustainability of the Batik Solo Trans (BST) Bus in 2021 and to find out the Surakarta community's perception of the sustainability of the BST Bus in 2021. This research uses a qualitative-quantitative method (mixed method). The research was carried out in 4 BST Bus operating corridors in Surakarta City. Data taken in the form of primary data collected by means of field observations and interviews, as well as secondary data taken from documentation or records of related parties. In collecting perception data using a framework that has been compiled by Litman (2019) and adjusted according to the availability of data and the conditions of the Covid-19 pandemic. The results of this research indicate that the BST Bus has met most of the indicators in socially sustainable transportation. Things that need to be paid attention to are indicators of accessibility for people with disabilities and access for low-income passengers. The results also show that people's perceptions of the social sustainability of the BST Bus vary. Corridors I, II, and III get good perception results, while Corridor IV gets moderate perception results. The results of this research are very important as the basis for the improvement and development of sustainable transportation in the city of Surakarta and in Indonesia.
